Hello!
I'm Josie - a former primary school teacher and home ed mum of two.
I created The Home Ed Help to encourage and support families on their own home education path. Whatever point you're at, I hope you’ll find practical ideas, support, encouragement and inspiration to make home education work for your family.
Becoming a parent gave me a new perspective on children's learning, one that changed the way I thought about education altogether. As a teacher, I understood the challenges of supporting individual children in a classroom of 30, but at home I discovered how naturally learning can unfold when it's guided by curiosity, supported with autonomy and given time and space to develop.
This shift in perspective led our family to home education which is a path that’s been just as full of learning for my husband and me as it has for our kids. It’s been freeing, eye-opening and incredibly rewarding, but definitely not without its challenges!
Running a weekly home ed group in London for three years allowed me to have many honest conversations about the realities of home ed life with other parents. Not just about our children's learning, but the everyday challenges that come with this choice. Those conversations were part of the inspiration behind this site.
I don’t believe there is one ‘right’ way to home educate. Every family is different. But there are things that can make a real difference to children and to the experience of home education, and my aim is to share ideas, experiences and resources that might help you create a way of home educating that works for your family.
Here you'll find:
